\u00a0<\/span>Dear colleagues,<\/span><\/p>\n

PlaCe-ITN is an Innovative Training Network dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of pre-modern\u00a0ceramics and plasters from the Eastern Mediterranean. It\u00a0aims at training Early-Stage (doctoral)\u00a0Researchers to conduct state-of-the-art, science-based research on the\u00a0technology, use, and provenance\u00a0of archaeological plasters and ceramics, the most abundant materials in most\u00a0archaeological sites and site assemblages. It is running from 2021 to 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n


For the implementation of the\u00a0project, eight universities and research centres from five counties have joined\u00a0forces. The Cyprus Institute will\u00a0coordinate the project\u2019s consortium that also includes the University of\u00a0Cyprus, the National Centre for\u00a0Scientific Research \u201cDemokritos\u201d in Greece, the\u00a0British School at Athens, the University of Cambridge and University College\u00a0London in the UK,\u00a0the\u00a0Katholieke Universiteit Leuven\u00a0in\u00a0Belgium, and the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Czech\u00a0Academy of Sciences.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The project will\u00a0employ 15 doctoral researchers across the\u00a0consortium, offering a wide range of training courses for the analytical study\u00a0of the first synthetic materials produced by humankind, i.e., plasters and\u00a0ceramics. It focusses on the technology, know-how, raw materials and tools\u00a0developed and employed for their production, in different regions of the\u00a0eastern Mediterranean, in pre-modern societies\u00a0from prehistory to the\u00a0post-medieval period.<\/span><\/p>\n

Short-term Fellowships<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

ESR 03A-F, CyI:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Six short-term Early-Stage Research fellowships are designed for Researchers that are already doctoral students and seek to receive training and develop their analytical skills in the interdisciplinary study of archaeological plasters and ceramics at the Cyprus Institute. The research topics for these fellowships are expected to directly support and complement the main doctoral studies of the applicants, as well as having a close link to the main topic of the ITN and the analytical and supervisory capabilities of CyI.\u00a0These fellowships will be co-supervised by the CyI and the respective PhD supervisors at the external host universities. The short fellowships will take place at the CyI labs with the potential for secondments to other laboratories of the consortium, according to the needs of the pursued doctoral research topics.
